Engineers on this team design and deliver production-grade AI agents that help major insurance and financial institutions handle complex customer interactions, such as filing claims quickly or generating tailored quotes. The role exists within the Financial Services team at Sierra, partnering directly with large enterprises to set AI strategies, build modern tools, and shape the core platform through unmet customer needs.
Candidates joining this group take complete ownership from initial pilot through deployment and continuous iteration. A successful engineer brings a builder and tinkerer's mindset, high agency, and comfort working directly with customers in fast-changing, ambiguous environments.
What you will do
- Design and deliver production-grade AI agents that are central and drive revenue directly to company growth.
- Drive the Agent Development Life Cycle with complete ownership and autonomy from initial pilot through deployment and continuous iteration.
- Partner with large enterprises and startups to understand pressing business challenges and build AI agents that transform operations at scale.
- Surface unmet needs, prototype new tools and features, and collaborate with research, product, and platform teams to guide the evolution of the core platform.
- Build and refine AI agents capable of navigating complex customer interactions like filing insurance claims or generating coverage quotes.
What you need
- Experience building and scaling end-to-end production systems.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills, especially in fast-changing and ambiguous environments.
- A builder and tinkerer's mindset with high agency to find creative ways to overcome obstacles and ship.
- Comfort working directly with customers to understand their needs and solve real-world problems.
- Excellent communication skills that are clear, direct, and persuasive across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Genuine interest in financial services and improving the end customer experience.
Nice to have
- Experience building or deploying AI/LLM systems in production
- Previous experience as a founder or founding engineer
- Familiarity with eval frameworks, agent tooling, RAG pipelines, and prompt engineering
- Prior experience with React, TypeScript, and/or Go
- Experience in insurance technology, implementations at financial institutions, or familiarity with security and compliance requirements
