Role Overview

The Senior or Staff Software Engineer for Platform position at Snorkel AI is a full-time engineering role based in New York City or San Francisco with hybrid work options. This opportunity suits experienced backend and infrastructure professionals who want to design foundational architecture for agent-driven AI platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop agent infrastructure to safely accelerate workflows across operational and engineering teams.
Implement event-driven data flows utilizing event brokers, change data capture connectors, schema registries, event routing, and dead letter queues to guarantee reliable event delivery.
Build systems that track data lineage, enforce role-based access control, manage data governance, and handle audit logging alongside personal identifiable information compliance.
Establish strategies for build systems, testing frameworks, and continuous integration and deployment pipelines to drive automation.
Instrument services utilizing OpenTelemetry, monitor service level objectives, and participate in on-call rotations for platform maintenance.
Contribute to cloud infrastructure cost optimization through workload right-sizing, query cost estimation, and appropriate storage tier routing.
Partner with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to maintain high codebase and infrastructure standards.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of professional experience building platform infrastructure, distributed backend services, or large-scale data systems.
Strong proficiency using Python and designing internal REST APIs for developers.
Solid background working with distributed systems and cloud platforms, with a preference for Amazon Web Services such as S3, RDS, EKS, EventBridge, and Identity and Access Management.
Hands-on experience operating in environments managed by Terraform.
Familiarity with data orchestration platforms like Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster, as well as transformation frameworks like dbt.
Understanding of core data governance principles including access control, audit logging, data lineage, and personal identifiable information handling.
Demonstrated capability in leading complex engineering projects and communicating technical concepts effectively.

Nice to Have

Prior experience creating shared libraries or software development kits consumed by multiple teams.
Familiarity with event-driven architectures involving event buses, change data capture, and at-least-once delivery semantics.
Exposure to observability tools such as OpenTelemetry or ClickHouse.
Background working in regulated environments subject to compliance standards like SOC 2, FedRAMP, or HIPAA.
Experience utilizing distributed compute frameworks like Ray.
Previous experience working within hyper-growth startup environments or acting as a technical lead.
