Senior Software Engineer, State Estimation
About this role
Engineers build high-performance software for real-time systems, prototyping and deploying algorithms for target tracking, multi-sensor data fusion, and state estimation. Working in Broomfield, Colorado, the person in this position defines the technical direction of a small team, designs robust probabilistic reasoning systems, and analyzes performance using high-fidelity simulations. Team members develop defense technology powered by Lattice OS, transforming thousands of data streams into a real-time, 3D command and control center.
The role exists to solve complex problems in situational awareness and autonomy, delivering deployed solutions that impact mission-critical applications. Ideal candidates bring extensive background in algorithm design and statistical modeling, combined with a pragmatic approach to bridging academic research and real-world implementation.
What you will do
- Define and influence the technical direction of a small team using subject-matter expertise in target tracking and state estimation.
- Prototype and deploy state-of-the-art algorithms for tracking, multi-sensor data fusion, and state estimation within agile environments.
- Develop high-performance software for real-time systems, simulation environments, and decision support tools.
- Design and implement robust filters, estimators, and probabilistic reasoning systems to process noisy or incomplete sensor data.
- Analyze system performance through high-fidelity simulations, modeling tools, and rigorous statistical techniques.
- Customize algorithms and software for mission-critical use cases and integrate them into the broader software development lifecycle.
- Translate technical progress into clear insights for colleagues and end-users.
What you need
- Bring 8 or more years of experience in algorithm design, software development, and statistical modeling.
- Demonstrate programming expertise in C/C++, Python, and Matlab.
- Possess strong knowledge of target tracking techniques such as Kalman filters, particle filters, and multi-target tracking algorithms.
- Have direct experience in state estimation, Bayesian filtering, sensor fusion, and recursive estimation techniques.
- Understand applied mathematics including linear algebra, optimization, probability, and stochastic processes.
- Show familiarity with big data pipelines, NoSQL databases, and large-scale sensor data handling, along with a background in machine learning for target tracking.
- Maintain eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
