Senior Software Engineer, Machine Learning (Safety)
About this role
The Safety ML team at Discord builds machine learning models and systems designed to keep millions of daily active users safe across the platform. Engineers on the team develop real-time and batch pipelines focused on content understanding, risk evaluation, and account integrity to protect the community.
Members of the team collaborate directly with product, engineering, design, policy, legal, and Trust and Safety partners to design and deliver effective ML solutions from ideation to production. An ideal candidate brings strong backend and modeling skills, a first-principles approach to complex problems, and a collaborative mindset for cross-functional teamwork.
What you will do
- Analyze data to identify risk patterns and inform the design of machine learning models.
- Build, iterate on, and evaluate models that detect risk and anomalous behavior.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, legal, and Trust and Safety partners to deliver effective ML solutions.
- Work with partner teams to curate golden label sets at scale and improve data labeling techniques for model training.
- Deploy models into production systems while writing backend code to ensure scalability and reliability.
- Monitor model performance and document modeling approaches and systems following current machine learning best practices.
What you need
- Have at least 4 years of professional experience in ML engineering or applied ML roles.
