About this role
DigitalOcean's Agentic AI organisation builds a powerful inference cloud, Managed Agents, and robust feedback systems that enable customers to run AI inference safely and at scale. Within this group, the Feedback Systems team focuses on constructing the scalable backend infrastructure needed to test and evaluate AI agents reliably. Engineers on this team design high-throughput backend systems that orchestrate complex execution workflows, interface with isolated execution environments, and process evaluation signals.
Candidates joining this team will tackle distributed systems challenges at the intersection of infrastructure orchestration and asynchronous data flows. The ideal person possesses a strong sense of ownership, excellent communication skills, and the capability to thrive within a globally distributed team environment while maintaining a focus on reliability and high availability.
What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain robust backend services and highly concurrent asynchronous workflows using Python and Go.
- Integrate backend control planes with secure, isolated execution environments to safely run agents and capture artifacts.
- Build and operate scalable gRPC and REST APIs to serve as the connective tissue across data pipelines, evaluation engines, and internal platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to guarantee that infrastructure reliably supports complex evaluation scenarios and outcome metrics.
- Drive engineering best practices including code reviews, comprehensive testing, and technical design documentation.
- Monitor system performance, investigate bottlenecks, and ensure high reliability across orchestration systems.
What you need
- Bring five or more years of software engineering experience building highly concurrent, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
- Demonstrate deep proficiency in Python and Go, or show strong experience in C++ or Java with a willingness to master Python and Go quickly.
- Possess hands-on experience utilizing durable workflow orchestration engines to manage distributed state and long-running asynchronous tasks.
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of containerization, virtualization, or secure workload isolation technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or microVMs.
- Show experience building resilient APIs and handling high-throughput event or message data.
- Possess a strong foundational understanding of interacting with LLM APIs, prompt constraints, and the architectural challenges of testing non-deterministic systems.
Benefits
- Reimbursement for relevant conferences, training, and education
- Access to LinkedIn Learning's 10,000+ courses
- Employee Assistance Program
- Local Employee Meetups
- Flexible time off policy
- Equity compensation and Employee Stock Purchase Program participation
