Role Overview

Workato is hiring a full-time Senior Software Engineer specializing in Go and the AI domain for the Workato Genie team in Belgrade, Serbia. The professional in this position will help build backend infrastructure that unifies data, applications, and processes into a single execution layer for enterprise artificial intelligence. Candidates must be ready to collaborate with distributed global teams and handle full-cycle product feature delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Develop mission-critical features and services for the platform, focusing on AI chatbot dispatching and balancing synchronous and asynchronous execution.
Build high-performance gateways and routing components as well as server-side infrastructure for logging and monitoring.
Partner with infrastructure and site reliability engineering teams to meet high availability and scalability standards.
Work alongside the AI team to design and implement features for a new AI assistant.
Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle by writing testable, efficient code.
Evaluate system performance, propose technical improvements, and research alternative technologies for architectural review.

Requirements

Hold a BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Bring at least 8 years of total industry experience, with a minimum of 4 years of backend experience using the Go programming language.
Possess strong debugging, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Demonstrate a solid understanding of large web application building blocks such as databases, load balancers, application servers, message brokers, caching, and monitoring.
Show proven experience building and scaling distributed, highly available systems.
Maintain at least basic knowledge of Kubernetes concepts and configuration.
Demonstrate spoken English proficiency sufficient for technical interviews and daily collaboration.

Nice to Have

Experience with Ruby on Rails development and contributions to open-source projects.
Familiarity with Docker and alternative isolation technologies.
Experience implementing Redis-based caching.
Background working with public cloud providers like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Experience in related technical domains including DevOps, machine learning, database administration, or enterprise applications.
Practical knowledge of third-party REST APIs at scale, covering request throttling and batch processing.
