Senior Software Engineer, GNC Modeling
About this role
Developing computationally efficient high-fidelity models of vehicle dynamics, interceptor performance, and weapon system effectiveness takes up the bulk of daily tasks in this position. Engineers within the Battlespace Awareness Command and Control Software group build physics-based simulations, resource models, and trajectory prediction tools that validate model behavior across diverse operational scenarios. Operating within Anduril Industries, the team designs intelligent software integrations and autonomous mission execution capabilities powered by the Lattice OS platform.
This role exists to support real-time threat prediction, battle management decisions, and asset allocation against dynamic, contested threats. Individuals who thrive in this environment enjoy translating operational requirements into validated technical models and integrating simulation technologies into a broader software stack. Candidates with a strong foundation in guidance, navigation, and control, alongside a background in mathematical modeling, find success while collaborating closely with robotics and software engineering peers.
What you will do
- Contribute hands-on to a small, collaborative team within the Command and Control Software organization, applying expertise in modeling, simulation, and control systems.
- Help develop computationally efficient high-fidelity models of vehicle dynamics, interceptor performance, and weapon system effectiveness to support real-time threat prediction and battle management decisions.
- Implement resource models and control systems that inform the allocation and tasking of assets against dynamic, contested threats.
- Build physics-based simulations and mission engineering tools that validate model behavior across diverse operational scenarios.
- Help develop trajectory prediction and state estimation capabilities to characterize how threats and friendly assets will move and behave over time.
- Support customer success by tailoring models and simulations for mission-critical use cases.
- Integrate modeling and simulation technologies into the broader command and control software stack, from requirements definition through testing and optimization.
- Translate technical progress into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders, including colleagues, operators, and end-users.
What you need
- Have 8+ years of experience in algorithm design, software development, and mathematical modeling with programming expertise in Python and MATLAB.
- Demonstrate experience in guidance, navigation, and control, trajectory prediction, and state estimation, or the development of predictive models for vehicle dynamics and weapon system effectiveness.
- Show exposure to resource models and control systems applied to asset tasking and allocation in command and control environments.
- Maintain a solid understanding of applied mathematics, including linear algebra, optimization, and statistics, as applied to physics-based modeling and simulation.
- Bring familiarity with path planning and graph search algorithms such as A* and D* Lite.
- Possess exposure to machine learning applied to planning and decision-making, including reinforcement learning, learned heuristics, and behavior prediction.
- Write robust, concurrent code for modeling and prediction under uncertainty in complex, dynamic, contested environments.
- Remain eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice to have
- Experience with Rust for high-performance, safety-critical software
- Background in physics-based modeling of interceptors or other high-speed aerial vehicles
