Hume AI is seeking a full-time Senior Software Engineer - Frontend UI to join the team in New York City. This product-focused position suits an experienced developer ready to build web interfaces for voice AI technology.

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Frontend team, the chosen candidate will build web applications and developer tools that connect users to Hume's voice AI platform. Operating with high autonomy, this role involves owning features from initial design and implementation through to testing, deployment, and ongoing production support. Daily collaboration happens alongside backend engineers, product managers, designers, and research teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain production web applications utilizing TypeScript, React, and Next.js.
Create intuitive interfaces for voice AI products, enterprise tooling, and developer platforms to present real-time model behavior and system states.
Develop reusable frontend components and establish shared engineering patterns.
Connect frontend applications to APIs, real-time services, and WebSockets.
Build and maintain automated frontend testing suites.
Identify and resolve issues to enhance frontend reliability, performance, and usability.
Partner with design and product teams to deliver polished user experiences.
Document technical systems and features clearly.

Requirements

Professional background in building production web applications.
Proficiency in TypeScript, React, and Next.js.
Knowledge of modern JavaScript, HTML, CSS, browser rendering, caching, and performance tuning.
Product and UI intuition specifically suited for AI-powered applications.
Background in designing maintainable frontend architectures covering state management, data flows, and data fetching.
Experience in creating responsive, accessible, and polished user interfaces.
Practical knowledge of automated frontend testing including unit, integration, and end-to-end approaches.
High sense of ownership with the ability to make independent engineering decisions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Capability to use AI-assisted coding tools effectively while fully owning, validating, and debugging the code.

Nice to Have

Background building developer platforms, consoles, dashboards, or developer-facing products.
Experience working with WebSockets, WebRTC, streaming APIs, or real-time systems.
Exposure to audio, video, visualizations, or rich interactive media.
Familiarity with design systems or component libraries.
Understanding of modular frontend architectures.
Experience with performance profiling, observability, or testing infrastructure.
Familiarity with Playwright or similar end-to-end frameworks.
Experience integrating authentication tools like Auth0.
Prior exposure to machine learning or AI products.
