Senior Software Engineer, Discovery
About this role
Engineers who thrive in ambiguous, early-stage environments with a blank sheet of paper will find a strong fit within the Lattice for Cyber group at Anduril Industries. This founding team operates as part of a new business line focused on positioning the company as a lead provider of capabilities for offensive cyber missions. Team members build core primitives, experiences, and distributed software systems that integrate autonomous vehicles, mesh networks, and the Lattice operating system to operate reliably at the edge.
Daily work centers on designing scalable services, data models, and APIs to power command and control frameworks, autonomous cyber behavior trees, SIGINT analysis tools, and data exfiltration pipelines. Practitioners tackle diverse challenges spanning networking, robotics, and systems integration, occasionally incorporating AI and LLM-enabled workflows to boost operator effectiveness. The position exists to scale novel solutions for unconventional and difficult-to-reach environments, requiring pragmatic trade-offs and close collaboration with program teams and customers.
What you will do
- Build highly-available and scalable services, data models, and APIs that power offensive cyber products such as command and control frameworks and data exfiltration pipelines.
- Integrate best-of-breed cyber tools and products into the Lattice platform using custom SDKs and white-glove integrations.
- Collaborate directly with program teams and customers to support real missions built on the platform.
- Contribute to technical leadership, design clarity, and long-term maintainability across a growing software stack.
- Design distributed software systems that maintain reliability between the far edge and the enterprise across degraded, intermittent, and contested networks.
- Incorporate AI and LLM-enabled workflow features to enhance analyst and operator effectiveness without compromising system reliability.
- Contribute code back to the central Lattice software platform core to provide value across the entire company.
What you need
- Bring 8 or more years of professional experience designing, building, and operating production software.
- Demonstrate strong software engineering proficiency in one or more languages including C, C++, Python, Go, Rust, or modern TypeScript and React application development.
- Possess the ability to debug across the full stack, encompassing logs, networking, interfaces, configuration, and hardware-software boundaries.
- Hold practical experience working with Linux and containerized deployment environments.
- Show comfort collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams while translating ambiguous requirements into clean software interfaces.
- Maintain strong written and verbal communication skills tailored for technical reviews and architecture discussions.
- Reside in or be willing to relocate to the Washington, DC or Orange County, CA metro areas.
- Demonstrate willingness to travel up to 20 percent of the time to support program teams and customer events while remaining US security clearance eligible.
Nice to have
- Hands-on offensive or defensive cyber background
- Exposure to AI and LLM integration patterns, inference workflows, tool orchestration, or model-assisted application features
- Front end experience in TypeScript and React
- Track record of technical leadership, productization work, or direct customer interface in complex engineering environments
- Prior work delivering into air-gapped or constrained deployment environments
Benefits
- Competitive base salary ranging from $191,000 to $253,000 USD
- Highly competitive equity grants included in the majority of full-time offers
- Comprehensive, competitive benefits package covering health and recovery provided at little to no cost to employees
