Role Overview

As a Senior Back End Software Engineer, the selected candidate will design, develop, and maintain cloud-based microservices while working alongside cross-functional teams. The professional will deliver high-quality software solutions following architectural patterns, design principles, and thorough testing methodologies. Additionally, the role involves leveraging modern AI developer tools to accelerate quality software delivery and fostering a collaborative, agile development environment.

Key Responsibilities

Build scalable, secure, and high-performance microservices using TypeScript and AWS while applying core software engineering principles and architectural best practices.
Utilize state-of-the-art AI developer tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and LLM reasoning models for context gathering, boilerplating, test generation, and code refactoring.
Implement robust unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to guarantee high code quality and adopt test-driven development where applicable.
Participate actively in Agile Scrum or Kanban ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
Conduct and participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards while critically evaluating AI-generated code for correctness and security.
Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to understand requirements and design platform architecture improvements.

Requirements

5+ years of experience designing and developing service-oriented applications in TypeScript, Python, Java, C#, or another modern language.
Experience building microservice-based systems that ensure high cohesion and loose coupling.
Comfortable integrating AI tools like Cursor, ChatGPT/Claude, or Claude Code into daily workflows to boost velocity while maintaining code validation.
Experience implementing comprehensive testing strategies including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
Working knowledge of relational or NoSQL data stores and industry-standard design and architectural patterns.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Experience working in Agile environments like Scrum or Kanban.
Understanding of security best practices in software development, including JWT, OAuth, and encryption.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Must be based in Portugal, specifically in Lisbon, Porto, Braga, or Coimbra.
Must be able to start immediately or on a maximum notice period of two weeks.

Nice to Have

Prior experience with AWS serverless and companion technologies such as SQS and DynamoDB.
