Detecting and tracking complex airborne threats in real-time requires robust software that processes massive volumes of radar data without latency. Anduril Industries needs a Senior Scientific Software Engineer to design advanced tracking algorithms and high-performance distributed systems for the Air & Missile Defense Radar team. Engineers here build production-grade defense technology powered by Lattice OS, translating mathematical models into reliable operational capabilities.
The incoming engineer will create multi-target tracking algorithms, build simulation environments, and optimize software for performance-critical environments in Broomfield or Fort Collins, Colorado. Success in this group requires a solid foundation in mathematics, strong C++ and Python programming abilities, and a drive to solve difficult real-world defense challenges alongside radar specialists and system architects.
What you will do
- Design and implement advanced tracking algorithms for novel air and missile threats, including multi-target tracking, track fusion, and discrimination techniques.
- Develop high-performance, real-time software systems that process radar sensor data and maintain tracks on dozens to hundreds of simultaneous targets.
- Build and leverage modeling and simulation environments to validate tracking performance, quantify system capabilities, and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate directly with radar engineers and system architects to integrate tracking solutions into end-to-end defense systems.
- Optimize tracking software for performance-critical environments where milliseconds matter.
- Communicate technical concepts and trade-offs to cross-functional teams, program leadership, and customers to drive informed decisions.
- Participate in customer demonstrations and field tests to ensure successful deployment and operational effectiveness.
What you need
- Have at least 8 years of relevant experience combined with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrate strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
- Possess a solid foundation in mathematics including linear algebra, probability, statistics, and differential equations.
- Understand software engineering fundamentals such as design patterns, testing, version control, and debugging.
- Hold the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret SCI security clearance.
Nice to have
- Experience with tracking, estimation, or filtering algorithms like Kalman filters, particle filters, or multiple hypothesis tracking
- Background in controls, estimation theory, or digital signal processing
- Familiarity with radar systems, sensor fusion, or high-performance computing
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques for classification, clustering, or data association
- Experience working in agile development environments and familiarity with modeling tools like MATLAB or Simulink
