Role Overview

As a Senior Manager, Engineering on the IQ Platform team, the selected professional will lead the vision and architecture behind the context layer that drives all operations of the company's AI agents. Operating in a player-coach capacity, this role combines people leadership with hands-on technical contributions, partnering closely with Staff-level engineers to solve complex problems. Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering, the individual will shape the product roadmap for knowledge management and retrieval systems while mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the IQ Platform team by setting technical direction, mentoring engineers, and overseeing the delivery of major platform initiatives.
Design and scale knowledge management systems, including external integrations and retrieval-augmented generation pipelines.
Create architectures for a self-improving context layer that learns continuously from usage, user feedback, and new data.
Write and review code while fostering technical excellence as a hands-on contributor.
Partner with Staff and senior engineers to navigate ambiguous technical challenges and system design decisions.
Collaborate across Product, Design, and Engineering departments to support real-world agent workflows at scale.

Requirements

Ten or more years of hands-on software engineering experience, featuring proven technical architecture ownership and people leadership.
Comprehensive understanding of core artificial intelligence concepts, such as large language models, agents, copilots, context windows, tokens, data governance, and retrieval-augmented generation.
Demonstrated ability to connect technical execution with business outcomes and build healthy engineering teams.
High flexibility and agility to ship major systems within a fast-paced startup environment.
Strong systems design capabilities with a history of building production platforms or infrastructure at scale.

Nice to Have

Practical, hands-on experience working directly with large language models and applied LLM systems.
Specialized expertise in retrieval-augmented generation, covering retrieval pipelines, embedding strategies, and evaluation.
Familiarity with popular framework tools for large language models, including LangChain.

The expected base salary range for this role spans from $238,000 to $280,000 per year, with final compensation depending on relevant experience, competencies, skills, and certifications. Comprehensive benefits and perks include:
