Role Overview

Smartly seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join the AI Platform Team in Berlin. In this position, professionals will build and experiment with machine learning solutions spanning media and creative workflows. Candidates will take ownership of high-impact projects, helping marketers optimize ad campaigns and creatives while working closely with a collaborative team of machine learning engineers, data scientists, and software engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Build machine learning software systems that allow users to create effective advertising campaigns and experiences.
Handle diverse datasets ranging from images, videos, audio, and text to structured performance data.
Strengthen the company's MLOps and data platform to robustly and efficiently productionize AI applications.
Participate actively in work planning, team retrospectives, and continuous product improvement.
Collaborate with product, engineering, and infrastructure stakeholders to translate business requirements into viable technical solutions.
Stay current with the latest machine learning innovations, focusing on areas like generative AI, computer vision, natural language processing, and explainability.

Requirements

Five plus years of experience developing and deploying production-quality software.
Two plus years of experience delivering software services powered by machine learning.
Two plus years of experience working with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP.
Fluency in Python, with additional experience in C++ or Java considered a plus.
Hands-on background with modern machine learning frameworks including PyTorch and TensorFlow.
Familiarity with MLOps concepts and tools like MLflow or Kubeflow.
Expertise in feature engineering, model evaluation, diagnostics, and monitoring.
Solid foundation in linear algebra, statistics, and calculus.
Experience building scalable data pipelines for machine learning data processing and maintaining services under SLAs.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability and willingness to work in a hybrid capacity from the Berlin office three days a week.
An M.Sc. in a relevant field is preferred.
