The Senior Infrastructure Engineer for AI/ML Systems at Instructure is a full-time position based in Budapest, Hungary, with hybrid remote work options requiring onsite collaboration on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and strongly encouraged on Thursdays. This role suits an experienced infrastructure professional who wants to take ownership of production systems and partner closely with data scientists to deliver advanced AI capabilities for education.

Key Responsibilities

Build and operate robust deployment pipelines for artificial intelligence services, encompassing continuous integration, continuous deployment, environment promotion, rollbacks, and infrastructure-as-code.
Deploy and manage model serving, orchestration pipelines, and batch scoring across development, staging, and production environments.
Collaborate directly with applied AI engineers and data scientists to transition prototypes into production, including system design for brand-new services.
Maintain production reliability for artificial intelligence services by handling monitoring, alerting, debugging, cost management, and performance optimization.
Identify repeated engineering patterns and convert them into reusable templates so the team can efficiently scale deployments without starting from scratch.

Requirements

Six or more years of professional experience in platform, infrastructure, DevOps, or machine learning engineering with a history of owning production systems.
Extensive hands-on experience utilizing a broad variety of AWS services including compute, networking, storage, monitoring, and deployment.
Practical background in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation.
Demonstrated proficiency with containers and modern deployment methods, specifically requiring Docker alongside experience with Kubernetes, ECS, or EKS applied to production CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with workflow and orchestration tooling like Airflow, Dagster, Argo, or Step Functions.
Ability to navigate ambiguity and collaborate effectively alongside research and data science teams.

Nice to Have

Background working with machine learning platform components and large-scale data pipeline orchestration.
History of operating retrieval-based or large language model systems in a live production setting.
Experience managing specialized data stores, including graph databases.
Track record of creating internal reference implementations, templates, or tooling adopted by other engineers.
