About this role

Developing path planning, trajectory optimization, and multi-agent coordination algorithms forms the core of daily responsibilities in this role. Engineers in the Battlespace Awareness Command and Control Software group design and prototype global and local path planners, search algorithms, and decision-making systems that generate safe, optimal routes in dynamic environments.

Anduril Industries builds advanced defense technology powered by Lattice OS, an AI-driven operating system that integrates thousands of data streams into a realtime three-dimensional command center. This position exists to shape the direction of a small team within the command and control software organization using subject-matter expertise in guidance, navigation, and control. Ideal candidates possess a strong background in algorithm design, mathematical modeling, and vehicle dynamics, combined with practical experience building high-performance software for real-time systems.

What you will do

  • Define and influence the direction of a small team within the Command and Control Software organization by leveraging expertise in path planning and route optimization.
  • Prototype and deploy state-of-the-art algorithms for global and local path planning, trajectory optimization, and multi-agent coordination.
  • Develop high-performance software for real-time command and control systems, including operator-facing mission planning tools and autonomous tasking services.
  • Design and implement robust planners, search algorithms, and decision-making systems that generate optimal routes in dynamic and contested environments.
  • Analyze system performance with high-fidelity simulations, modeling tools, and statistical techniques to validate planner behavior across diverse scenarios.
  • Drive customer success by customizing algorithms and software for collaborative autonomy, asset routing, and obstacle avoidance.
  • Integrate path planning technologies into the broader command and control software stack and development lifecycle.
  • Translate technical progress into actionable insights for colleagues, operators, and end-users.

What you need

  • Requires eight or more years of experience in algorithm design, software development, and mathematical modeling.
  • Must have programming expertise in C, C++, Python, and Matlab.
  • Strong knowledge of path planning techniques such as graph-based search, sampling-based planners, and grid-based planners is necessary.
  • Demonstrated experience in guidance, navigation, and control, trajectory optimization, or predictive models for vehicle dynamics is essential.
  • Solid understanding of applied mathematics including linear algebra, optimization, computational geometry, and graph theory.
  • Must possess knowledge of vehicle dynamics, kinematic constraints, and control theory as applied to autonomous platforms.
  • Familiarity with map representations, terrain reasoning, and handling large-scale geospatial data within distributed architectures.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

Nice to have

  • Background in machine learning applied to planning and decision-making, including reinforcement learning, learned heuristics, and behavior prediction
  • Familiarity with 6-DoF simulation and intercept analysis

Benefits

  • Competitive equity grants included in the majority of full-time offers
  • Comprehensive, competitive benefits package covering health and recovery
