Role Overview

Flodesk is looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can navigate both frontend and backend development while leveraging AI-native tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex as part of their daily build process. Candidates do not need prior end-to-end full-stack experience, provided they possess a strong learning mindset, deep technical curiosity, and an ability to adapt quickly. The role involves designing delightful interfaces, scaling backend systems to handle billions of annual events, building AI-powered features, and owning projects end-to-end in production.

Key Responsibilities

Craft delightful and intuitive user interfaces that anticipate customer needs across the product suite, which includes email, forms, checkout, and workflow automation.
Build and operate high-scale backend systems that manage billions of annual events while addressing speed, data processing, and stability challenges.
Develop AI-powered capabilities such as smarter writing assistance, auto-generated designs, intelligent workflows, and brand-new AI products from scratch.
Design robust APIs and integrations with third-party partners including Shopify, Zapier, and WooCommerce.
Own projects completely from understanding the underlying request and deciding what to build, to shipping the implementation in production.
Collaborate directly with Product Managers and Designers to determine functional feature behavior and implementation strategies.

Requirements

Frontend depth with strong skills in TypeScript and React (Hooks, Context), understanding React internals like re-rendering and the virtual DOM.
Familiarity with modern build tools like Vite and Turbo, monorepos, performance optimization, and code-splitting.
Strong computer science foundation with problem-solving skills, and experience with service-oriented architecture (SOA) using Golang or Node.js.
Experience with MongoDB or PostgreSQL and AWS services, capable of designing systems that remain performant under a 10x traffic increase.
Proven practice using AI-native development tools as a genuine engineering force multiplier while retaining full personal responsibility for shipped code.
Builder mindset and product thinking, prioritizing the 'why' and 'what' before jumping into implementation.
High sense of ownership, independence, clear async communication, and teamwork skills including code reviews and mentorship.

Nice to Have

Experience shipping AI or conversational UI features that enhance real user outcomes.
Background handling SaaS-specific challenges like fair usage and noisy neighbors, or working with large-scale databases involving sharding, partitioning, or zero-downtime migrations.
Experience in Martech, Fintech, or building internal tools for non-technical teams such as operations, customer success, and support.
Prior experience leading an engineering team or mentoring other software engineers.
