About this role

The Senior DevEx Engineer - Infrastructure position at Primer is a fully remote, full-time opportunity based in the United Kingdom. This role suits an experienced cloud infrastructure professional who wants to take ownership of internal developer platforms, shape human-AI coding workflows, and build reliable deployment pipelines.

Role Overview

Primer is hiring a Senior DevEx Engineer to join the Infrastructure team, which owns the platform that all other Primer engineers build and ship on. Operating in a remote-first, async, and high-autonomy environment, this position involves taking full end-to-end ownership of internal developer tooling, deployment workflows, and CI/CD pipelines. A unique aspect of this role is defining and shaping the human-AI development loop, creating patterns that allow engineers to work effectively and safely alongside coding agents.

Key Responsibilities

Own Primer's internal developer platform end-to-end, covering CI/CD pipelines, canary and blue/green deployment workflows, self-service tooling, and ephemeral environments.
Build the human-AI development loop by creating the tooling, automation, and patterns that make agent-driven workflows fast and safe.
Treat developer productivity as a measurable system by instrumenting workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and shipping targeted improvements.
Take operational ownership by joining the Core Infrastructure on-call rotation and maintaining the reliability of built systems.
Set technical direction for software delivery and mentor less experienced engineers.
Partner with product teams to improve the ergonomics of internal APIs, frameworks, and developer tools.
Build paved roads by reducing application boilerplate and establishing golden-path standards for service configuration.
Work openly and transparently across a fully distributed team.

Requirements

Strong cloud infrastructure experience, with a preference for AWS or alternatively a strong GCP background.
Hands-on Kubernetes experience.
Practical experience using Infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
Core competency in CI/CD, having directly owned build, test, deploy workflows, and preview environments.
Demonstrated history of measuring and improving software delivery using frameworks like DORA or SPACE.
Comfort with production ownership and participating in an on-call rotation.
Genuine software engineering background with experience building and maintaining applications or products.
Ability to reason about code usability to build developer tooling that engineers want to use.
Strong async-first communication skills suited for a distributed team.

Nice to Have

Hands-on experience building with AI, agent tooling, or LLM-based development workflows.
Familiarity with MCP servers and agent integration patterns.
Prior experience in payments, fintech, or other regulated industries.
