Senior Deployed AI Engineer – OpenAI
About this role
You will design and build the interfaces, services, and agentic systems at the heart of client work, taking AI products from idea to production. This position involves owning components end to end, including the front end, the service behind it, data and retrieval pipelines, deployment, and evaluations.Artefact is a data and AI consulting firm helping organizations accelerate the adoption of data and AI to create measurable business impact. What you will do
- Develop user-facing interfaces in TypeScript and React along with backend services and APIs in Python or Node.
- Implement agentic behavior including orchestration, tool and function calling, memory, and guardrails.
- Build retrieval-augmented generation pipelines for ingestion, chunking, embeddings, and vector or hybrid search.
- Connect AI systems to enterprise data and applications using APIs, semantic layers, and protocols like MCP.
- Design and build agentic systems utilizing the OpenAI platform, Responses API, Conversations API, and the Agents SDK.
- Write evaluation suites and regression tests for LLM-powered features while monitoring cost, latency, and quality.
- Communicate progress, trade-offs, and blockers clearly to clients and project leads.
What you need
- Bring three to five years of experience in software engineering or data engineering with hands-on AI and LLM development over the past year.
- Demonstrate strong hands-on experience with the OpenAI ecosystem such as the Responses API, Agents SDK, function calling, and prompt engineering.
- Possess strong programming skills in Python and TypeScript or JavaScript alongside API development experience.
- Have experience with front-end development using React or similar frameworks and at least one backend framework.
- Show hands-on experience with RAG, embeddings, vector search, and at least one agentic framework.
- Maintain working experience with at least one cloud platform, with Azure experience being a strong plus.
- Hold professional English proficiency at a C1 or C2 minimum for daily communication with international clients and colleagues.
- Possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

- Experience with MCP servers, multi-agent patterns, or LLM evaluation tooling
- Experience with Terraform or CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with realtime or voice APIs, multimodal applications, or fine-tuning at scale
- Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate
