Role Overview

As a foundational member of the central platform team located in Chennai, the Senior Data Engineer will design, build, and deploy high-quality, governed data assets. The position centers on unifying a fragmented data landscape into a standardized, AI-ready platform using modern tools like dbt and Databricks. This execution-focused role suits professionals with extensive data engineering experience who want to impact global operations and enable advanced AI applications.

Key Responsibilities

Build, test, and maintain optimized data transformation pipelines utilizing dbt and SQL within the Databricks environment.
Design dimensional models, apply partitioning strategies, and optimize query performance.
Automate data quality checks, security controls, row-level security, and column-level security through Databricks Unity Catalog and dbt testing frameworks.
Manage data ingestion workflows from diverse sources, including REST APIs, SFTP, and cloud storage, using Python and data loading frameworks.
Construct data assets designed to support Agentic and Generative AI applications, ensuring reliable and secure data access.
Work alongside DevOps professionals to set up CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions for automated deployment.
Maintain operational documentation and runbooks while mentoring junior and mid-level engineering staff.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of dedicated, hands-on data engineering experience building production-grade solutions.
Expert-level knowledge of dbt Core, including project structure, macros, and CI/CD integration.
Practical background working with the Databricks Lakehouse Platform, specifically Databricks SQL, Unity Catalog, and workflows.
Familiarity with Generative AI concepts, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, and vector databases.
Strong proficiency in Python for data ingestion tasks and automation.
Advanced SQL capabilities, performance tuning, and dimensional modeling knowledge.
Experience handling various ingestion sources and big-data file formats.
Solid understanding of cloud fundamentals, object storage, and secret management.
Background configuring data workflows inside a CI/CD framework such as GitHub Actions.
