Role Overview
The Senior Data Engineer position at Eve is a remote role based in the United States that involves owning and scaling the data pipelines and infrastructure for a fast-growing legal technology platform. This role suits an experienced data professional with a background in production systems who wants to shape the core data architecture of an AI-native company.
Key Responsibilities
Build and run the data platform by taking ownership of ingestion through Fivetran, third-party connectors, and custom extractions.
Manage orchestration using the dbt platform and GitHub Actions, improve model performance, and transition critical models from nightly full rebuilds to incremental patterns.
Implement source-schema change detection to surface upstream field changes as alerts before they impact downstream reports.
Establish observability practices, including freshness SLAs on critical tables, failure and drift alerting, and a structured incident response path.
Act as a first responder for broken pipelines and drive upstream fixes to prevent recurrence.
Monitor and manage pipeline compute costs while balancing freshness with operational spend.
Share Snowflake administration duties, covering role-based access models, security and network policies, data masking, PII controls, and storage organization.
Extend the existing medallion architecture and Terraform-managed footprint with full separation of development and production environments.
Contribute to foundational modeling layers, including source-to-staging patterns, conformed dimensions, shared entities, and slowly changing dimension (SCD) patterns.
Build and maintain development environments and CI workflows that allow analysts to contribute models safely.
Administer the data tooling stack, handle access and integrations, and utilize AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in data engineering, owning production systems that others depend on.
Strong proficiency in Python and SQL with production experience across ingestion, orchestration, and cloud infrastructure.
Solid practical experience with Snowflake, covering access control, warehouse sizing, query performance, and cost management.
Practical experience with dbt, including incremental models, testing, macros, git-based workflows with CI, and building SCD tables from multiple sources.
Comfort working in a Terraform-managed environment where infrastructure changes pass through code review.
Proven ability to build reliability practices such as alerting, freshness SLAs, incident response, and schema change detection.
Proficiency with AI-assisted development tooling, including agentic pipeline design and skill-based workflows.
Ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders about technical incidents, impacts, and timelines without unnecessary jargon.
Nice to Have
Background working in a regulated or high-sensitivity data environment such as legal, healthcare, or financial services.
Experience with streaming or near-real-time ingestion.
Exposure to Iceberg, Parquet, or unstructured data at scale.
Experience in B2B SaaS, particularly selling to small and mid-sized businesses or professional services firms.
