About this role

Bunch is hiring a Senior Applied AI Engineer for the AI Platform team in Berlin to build production-grade agent workflows and foundational AI systems. This hybrid role suits an experienced product engineer who wants to own end-to-end AI architecture, evaluation layers, and scalable engineering practices in a high-growth fintech environment.

Role Overview

The Senior Applied AI Engineer joins the AI Platform team at bunch to transition AI capabilities from experimental features to relied-upon production infrastructure. Located in Berlin, this hybrid position involves building document extraction pipelines, autonomous agent workflows, evaluation frameworks, and multi-provider failovers that adhere strictly to EU data residency requirements. The engineer owns the entire product lifecycle from initial architecture to ongoing deployment and observability.

Key Responsibilities

Build and ship autonomous agents that automate fund-operations workflows directly integrated into core services, data models, and authorization frameworks.
Design and implement evaluation layers, regression suites in continuous integration, and human review systems to track and improve accuracy, latency, and cost.
Manage AI application architecture, including orchestration, tool contracts, memory, context engineering, and the necessary guardrails and human-in-the-loop controls.
Operate production workloads with versioned rollouts, feature flags, rate limits, provider fallbacks, and comprehensive observability across services.
Establish platform standards, consolidate document parsing pipelines, and mentor engineering teams on artificial intelligence and large language model practices.

Requirements

At least 5 years of experience building production software.
Demonstrated experience taking at least one agent or large language model-powered capability end-to-end into production and maintaining ongoing ownership.
Practical depth in orchestration and context engineering such as tool contracts, memory, retrieval-augmented generation, and multi-agent design using frameworks like Mastra, ai-sdk, or LangGraph.
Ability to make non-deterministic systems measurable through real data test cases, regression suites, and structured human reviews.
Backend proficiency utilizing TypeScript and/or Python.
Strong platform mindset focused on building reusable standards and tooling for fellow engineers.
Pragmatic problem-solving approach centered on business outcomes and selecting deterministic solutions when appropriate.

Nice to Have

Experience working in fintech, private markets, or other regulated, document-heavy domains.
Prior experience navigating EU data-residency constraints.

Skills and Tools

TypeScript, Python, Node.js, Nest.js
Svelte, React
MySQL, PostgreSQL
Mastra, Vercel ai-sdk, Google Vertex Gemini, AWS Bedrock
Kubernetes, AWS, Datadog
FusionAuth, Retool

Salary and Benefits

Customizable benefits package covering wellbeing, sport, mobility, and food
28 days of vacation plus 2 company days and local public holidays
Hybrid work model requiring 3 days per week in the Berlin office
Option to work remotely for up to 6 calendar weeks per year
