Robotics Software Engineer, Test Infrastructure (SITL/HITL)
About this role
Engineers who find satisfaction in building invisible foundations and tracing intermittent failures to their root cause will thrive in this environment. The Sentry Tower Software team at Anduril Industries develops robotic systems that provide force protection capabilities, utilizing advanced sensor fusion and autonomy to monitor secure areas. This senior role takes ownership of the simulation and hardware test infrastructure, making automated, whole-system testing the standard for physical robotic platforms running on NVIDIA Jetson compute.
Working across software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop environments, the engineer designs functional test suites, scenario libraries, and diagnostic tooling. The existing foundations for declarative multi-node virtual towers and board test servers are already in place, leaving the incoming person to build the testing layer on top. Firmware integration, compute platform bring-up, and multiple business lines depend on this capability to prevent regressions from reaching deployed towers.
What you will do
- Manage and expand software-in-the-loop environments by incorporating product variants, maintaining trustworthy simulated sensor pipelines, and keeping test runtimes aligned with development cycles.
- Establish functional test coverage on hardware-in-the-loop benches for motion control, sensor bring-up, firmware updates, network failover, and recovery from power loss.
- Oversee continuous integration workflows including scheduling, log capture, dependency chaining, result reporting, and flake triage.
- Scale the test platform to support upcoming compute generations, new payloads, and additional product variants as the roadmap evolves.
- Develop diagnostic tooling such as log and serial console capture to enable root-cause analysis directly from continuous integration outputs.
- Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to establish physical test benches with automated power control and instrumentation.
- Partner with firmware and platform teams to support their integration and test authoring against the established framework.
What you need
- Four or more years of professional software engineering experience focusing on test infrastructure, continuous integration, or simulation for hardware systems.
- Proficiency in Python for test automation alongside working capability in Rust or C++ to read and debug services.
- Demonstrated background in automating tests against physical hardware through device provisioning, remote power control, network booting, or instrumented benches.
- Strong continuous integration and delivery skills for managing pipelines with expensive stages and hardware resource contention.
- Experience with declarative configuration and reproducible builds, specifically using Nix or NixOS, or adjacent tools like Bazel, Buildroot, Yocto, or Terraform.
- Solid Linux systems fundamentals covering networking, systemd, filesystems, and boot processes.
- Judgment in evaluating test costs and discipline in addressing flaky tests rather than tolerating them.
- United States person status with eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Nice to have
- Experience with robotics or vehicle simulation using Unreal, Unity, Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or custom simulators.
- Familiarity with NVIDIA Jetson provisioning and flashing workflows.
- Experience with virtualization and virtual machine-based integration testing including GPU passthrough.
- Background in hardware test engineering, hardware-in-the-loop rigs, or manufacturing test systems.
- Familiarity with CAN, serial protocols, or bus-level diagnostic tooling.
Benefits
- Competitive base salary between $192,000 and $292,000 USD
- Highly competitive equity grants included in the majority of full-time offers
- Comprehensive benefits package supporting health and recovery
