Role Overview

Iambic Therapeutics seeks a Research Scientist I/II for Purification Sciences to build and manage small-molecule purification capabilities and high-throughput analytical workflows. The employee operates out of the San Diego corporate headquarters, collaborating closely with medicinal chemistry and high-throughput experimentation teams to deliver purified compounds and analytical data.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement purification strategies for small molecules using preparative SFC and LC, focusing on SFC method creation and optimization.
Resolve complex separation challenges through adjustments to stationary phases, mobile phases, selectivity, gradients, scaling, and fraction collection.
Create and maintain high-throughput compound quality control processes utilizing LC/MS techniques to evaluate identity and purity.
Partner with internal discovery groups to establish operational purification strategies and deliver finalized compounds efficiently.
Act as a technical expert for chromatography systems, managing hardware, software, fluidics, and root-cause troubleshooting.
Provide direct operational support for chromatography platforms including maintenance and coordination with vendors.
Advance automated purification processes by integrating sample handling, characterization, and informatics.
Research and integrate new technologies in chromatography and automation to increase laboratory throughput and efficiency.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field with 0 to 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master of Science with 7 or more years of experience, or a Bachelor of Science with 9 or more years of experience.
Practical background in chromatographic purification and method development within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or drug discovery settings.
Proficiency in preparative SFC method setup, optimization, and troubleshooting.
Fundamental knowledge of chromatographic science with the capacity to resolve difficult separation issues independently.
Technical troubleshooting abilities covering hardware, software, and fluidics.
Familiarity with small-molecule drug discovery and medicinal chemistry.
Communication and problem-solving abilities.

Nice to Have

Background in high-throughput LC/MS analysis and sample quality assessment.
Familiarity with laboratory automation and data management systems.
Experience utilizing analytical equipment from manufacturers like Shimadzu or Agilent.
