Role Overview

Iambic Therapeutics is hiring a Principal, Associate Director, or Director of Agentic AI for a hybrid role based at the San Diego Headquarters. The position centers on designing, building, and implementing agentic AI workflows for small-molecule drug discovery programs. The selected leader will also co-lead the establishment of the Iambic Lab of the Future initiative, connecting AI-driven molecular design with automated high-throughput experimental systems.

Key Responsibilities

Direct the technical roadmap and daily execution of agentic AI workflows designed to accelerate small-molecule discovery for internal pipelines and external partnerships.
Build and deploy multi-step agentic systems integrating machine learning molecular design, such as NeuralPLexer and Enchant, with automated decision loops for hypotheses and experimental triage.
Drive efficiency gains within discovery collaborations to support scalable business opportunities.
Co-create the Iambic Lab of the Future framework alongside experimental leaders to unify AI molecular design, high-throughput experimental platforms, and automated data pipelines.
Collaborate with computational, data engineering, and experimental teams to ensure technical robustness and operational adoption.
Represent discovery capabilities externally at scientific conferences, academic collaborations, and partnership discussions.
Coordinate with senior leadership on agentic discovery strategy aligned with platform development and corporate objectives.
Mentor and develop a growing team of professionals within the agentic AI group.

Requirements

PhD in structural biology, machine learning, computational chemistry, chemical biology, or a related discipline, with equivalent experience also considered.
Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in machine learning, drug discovery, or platform-building environments.
Expertise in creating and deploying AI and machine learning workflows within life sciences or drug discovery contexts.
Strong familiarity with small-molecule drug discovery, encompassing structure-based design, ADMET, multi-parameter optimization, and generative chemistry models.
Track record of leading cross-functional scientific teams in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting.
Experience managing external research collaborations and adapting tooling for multi-organizational environments.
Strong scientific communication abilities to explain complex concepts to diverse technical and business audiences.

Nice to Have

Practical background using LLM-based agents, workflow orchestration frameworks, and integrating machine learning models directly into laboratory automation pipelines.
