About this role

Role Overview

Niantic Spatial is looking for a Research Scientist for Embodied AI to join their team in London on a full-time, hybrid basis. This role is ideal for an experienced researcher eager to advance spatial intelligence, shape Large Geospatial Models, and bridge the sim-to-real gap for autonomous systems.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement novel spatial representations tailored for embodied AI learning, training, and action.
Improve real-time simulation pipelines that link real-world data, 3D reconstruction, simulation, and robotic policy learning.
Address complex spatial challenges involving spatial intelligence, 3D scene representation, and model efficiency.
Evaluate and measure the impact of new capabilities on robotic policies rather than just reconstruction outputs.
Create and test proof-of-concept prototypes for internal teams and production-scale customer operations.
Work alongside cross-functional researchers, engineers, and product partners to transition models into production.
Share research findings through publications and presentations at industry events.

Requirements

Hold a PhD in computer vision, robotics, graphics, machine learning, or a related discipline, or possess equivalent research experience backed by a strong publication history at top venues.
Demonstrate substantial practical background in robotics or embodied AI, covering sim-to-real transfer, policy evaluation, and simulation-based learning.
Bring deep knowledge of 3D scene representations including Gaussian splatting, neural fields, meshes, and point clouds.
Experience applying generative or diffusion models to 3D data such as novel view synthesis, relighting, and scene completion.
Familiarity with 3D semantics, open-vocabulary scene understanding, and scene graphs.
Strong coding proficiency in Python paired with extensive use of deep learning frameworks like PyTorch.
Practical background in GPU or graphics programming, such as shaders, custom CUDA kernels, or differentiable rendering.
Documented history of contributing to widely utilized open-source research codebases.
