About this role

Designing and conducting rigorous experiments to validate hypotheses on frontier agentic systems forms the core daily routine for this research intern position at Together AI. The Agents team investigates how to build, align, and scale frontier AI systems capable of handling complex, multi-step tasks and workflows across text and speech domains. Team members tackle problems at the intersection of agent capabilities, human-computer interaction, and infrastructure by creating new training recipes for self-learning and long-horizon reasoning. Candidates who excel here combine strong programming skills in Python with solid foundations in machine learning and deep learning to push the boundaries of what AI agents can reliably accomplish.

Projects span curating datasets for non-deterministic scientific and agentic tasks, studying failure modes in agentic behavior, and building infrastructure that enables agent operations at scale. This role exists to support the development of post-training methods for agentic behavior and evaluation frameworks for open-ended tasks where traditional metrics fall short. Individuals who thrive in this environment possess a background in computer science or related fields, alongside a track record of publications at leading machine learning, natural language processing, or speech conferences.

What you will do

  • Research and implement novel techniques in one or more designated focus areas.
  • Design and conduct rigorous experiments to validate research hypotheses.
  • Document findings clearly in scientific publications and blog posts.
  • Communicate plans, progress, and results of projects to the broader team.

What you need

  • Currently pursue a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate publications at leading ML, NLP, or speech conferences or journals such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, *ACL, EMNLP, or Interspeech.
  • Possess strong knowledge of machine learning and deep learning fundamentals.
  • Bring practical experience with deep learning frameworks including PyTorch and JAX.
  • Maintain an understanding of how large language models work alongside strong programming skills in Python.
  • Show familiarity with Transformer architectures and recent developments in foundation models.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Housing stipends
