Role Overview

Anthropic is seeking a dedicated professional to join the Vision team and help unlock the full potential of large language models through visual and spatial reasoning. This position merges applied research with hands-on data tasks. The professional in this role will spearhead data strategies, build evaluations, design rewards, and scale training environments. Collaboration is a major component, involving partnerships with external vendors, pretraining teams, reinforcement learning specialists, and product groups to translate environments into real-world capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end data strategy for vision capabilities, including evaluation creation and reinforcement learning environment scaling.
Manage technical relationships with external data vendors by writing specifications, assessing annotation quality, and refining reward designs.
Develop and improve quality assurance frameworks to prevent reward hacking and maintain environment quality at scale.
Conduct generalization experiments to evaluate how data strategy improvements impact multimodal performance on held-out evaluations.
Partner closely with pretraining, reinforcement learning, and product teams to align scientific and technical goals.

Requirements

Minimum of 7 years of machine learning, computer vision, and software engineering experience gained through industry, academia, or projects.
Background in reinforcement learning, reward design, or training data curation for large language or vision-language models.
Familiarity with the architecture, training, and operation of large vision-language models.
Comfortable managing technical vendor relationships and iterating quickly based on feedback.
Results-oriented mindset with a strong bias toward flexibility and impact.
Minimum education of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Ability to meet the location-based hybrid policy, requiring staff to be in one of the designated offices at least 25% of the time.

Nice to Have

Experience designing evaluations or benchmarks for language models or vision-language models.
Background in large-scale pretraining, supervised learning, and reinforcement learning on language models.
Deep learning research experience focusing on images, video, or other modalities.
Skill in developing complex agentic systems using large language models.
Experience with large-scale ETL and data pipeline development.

Salary and Benefits
