This senior individual contributor role operates without direct reports initially, requiring a hands-on leader who can drive adoption of frontier artificial intelligence across central ministries while personally managing early complex agreements, compliance frameworks, and partnerships.
Reporting to the EMEA South leadership, this position collaborates closely with the Paris-based public policy lead, legal, security, and product teams to address data sovereignty, security requirements, and public procurement pathways. Candidates should possess extensive experience running public sector business units or enterprise sales teams targeting the French central government, combined with a willingness to operate independently in early-stage market expansion.
What you will do
- Define and own the public sector go-to-market strategy for France, determining initial target segments, winning approaches, and necessary operational foundations.
- Act as the senior face of Anthropic to the French State by building trusted relationships with ministerial cabinets, senior officials, and technology leaders across major ministries like defense, finance, and justice.
- Manage the complete sales cycle for initial strategic public sector opportunities from initial engagement through procurement, closing, deployment, and expansion.
- Collaborate with partnerships, legal, and finance teams to establish commercial routes to market, including resale channels, partner networks, framework agreements, and central purchasing bodies such as UGAP.
- Partner daily with the French public policy lead to ensure commercial and policy engagements reinforce each other and remain aligned with regulatory strategies.
- Lead customer discussions regarding data sovereignty, security, and compliance topics including SecNumCloud and state cloud doctrines while coordinating product and security alignment.
- Demonstrate product value alongside applied AI architects, cloud providers, and systems integrators by executing early-stage groundwork personally.
What you need
- 15+ years of experience in enterprise technology sales, including substantial time managing public sector business units or sales teams selling to French central government entities.
- Demonstrated ability to transition from a leadership background into a hands-on senior individual contributor role without an initial team.
- Proven track record of building from zero by establishing new markets, business lines, or early-stage operations without pre-existing support systems.
- History of landing large, complex, and transformative agreements with major ministries while personally leading the deal.
- Deep senior network across central government with the credibility to engage technical teams, directors, and cabinet members.
- Practical command of French public procurement processes, including tenders, framework agreements, and central purchasing bodies.
- Expertise in data sovereignty, security, and compliance requirements within the French State alongside experience leading those conversations with customers.
- Fluent in both French and English with exceptional written and spoken communication skills in each language.
