Designing and evolving the UI foundations, components, and expressive layers for core interactions happens daily on this team. Building tools used by millions while navigating entirely new interaction patterns forms the core of the work, alongside partnering closely with engineers to prototype rapidly in code. Anthropic seeks a product designer for their early-stage design systems group to define the language of UI across products like claude.ai and Claude Code.

What you will do
- Design and evolve foundational elements including color, typography, spacing, icons, tokens, theming, and components like menus, dialogs, sidebars, and the chat composer.
- Develop the expressive layer as a cohesive system encompassing motion, illustration, and icons that reflect both brand and system identity.
- Ensure the system remains legible to both human users and Claude through proper guidance, metadata, and evaluations.
- Partner directly with product teams to help designers and engineers apply the system correctly while feeding recurring gaps back into development.
- Prototype in code and ship changes directly into the design-system package alongside engineers using Claude Code.
What you need
- Demonstrate strong visual and interaction craft.
- Bring practical experience building or working on a design system.
- Show familiarity with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards.
- Maintain fluency in whichever tool accelerates the design process, ranging from Figma to code.
Nice to have
- Experience building products at the highest level of craft
- Shipped voice or other beyond-the-screen work with native mobile instincts
- Designed an icon set, illustration style, or motion system used across products
- Experience defining evals, lint rules, or automated checks for UI quality
- 8+ years of product design experience
