Role Overview

Quince is building a proprietary supply chain planning platform from scratch to support a unique manufacturer-to-consumer model. As the Principal Engineer for Supply Chain Planning Tools, the successful candidate will create production systems that integrate data science, forecasting models, and optimization algorithms into weekly business operations. This position requires establishing the foundational architecture for demand forecasting, logistics, and warehouse optimization with a focus on AI-native capabilities. Working closely with business leaders and science teams, this role involves translating complex operational challenges into reliable, scalable engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and build a multi-vendor, multi-modal, and multi-market supply chain planning platform from the ground up.
Manage the complete model pipeline lifecycle, including feature engineering, forecasting tournament frameworks, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and experimentation frameworks.
Build seamless integrations with inventory, vendor management, and order management platforms.
Integrate AI-native capabilities directly into the platform, such as LLM-aided observability, natural-language operator interfaces, and agentic workflows.
Develop robust operator-facing tooling, including dashboards, override workflows, audit trails, and automated alerts.
Partner directly with business leadership and the planning team to translate operational goals into precise engineering specifications.
Establish technical direction and architecture standards for a globally distributed engineering team while recruiting and growing a small, elite team.

Requirements

Twelve or more years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on data-intensive, machine learning-adjacent, or science platform systems in production.
Proven track record of 0-to-1 platform ownership, taking a greenfield charter from architecture through production.
Strong production machine learning and AI platform engineering experience, including feature pipelines, model serving, experiment frameworks, drift detection, vector stores, and prompt versioning.
Demonstrated proficiency in AI-native engineering practices, utilizing code generation and AI tooling while maintaining strict code review standards.
Solid science literacy as a collaborator to effectively partner with forecasting and optimization scientists.
Comprehensive software engineering fundamentals across data systems, API design, pipeline orchestration, and production operations.
Excellent communication skills for collaborating with business and product stakeholders.

Nice to Have

Experience in supply chain planning, demand forecasting systems, inventory optimization, or logistics operations.
Experience providing technical direction to geographically distributed engineering teams.
Hands-on background in machine learning or data science.
