About this role
DigitalOcean needs a senior security specialist to establish risk governance and operationalize machine learning defenses at cloud scale. This person will serve as the internal authority for all AI-related security risks, bridging the gap between security engineering, data science, and product teams to protect large-scale customer infrastructure.
Daily responsibilities include defining multi-year security roadmaps, conducting rigorous adversarial testing, and partnering with product leadership to integrate robust guardrails across model serving pipelines and RAG architectures. Ideal candidates possess a deep technical understanding of adversarial machine learning combined with the executive communication skills required to brief leadership on threat posture.
What you will do
- Partner with product security and engineering leadership to integrate AI security controls into customer-facing cloud products.
- Collaborate with security data science teams to build, deploy, and monitor in-house AI models and automated safety guardrails.
- Lead adversarial testing and AI red teaming initiatives, focusing on prompt injection, jailbreaking, evasion, and data poisoning.
- Perform comprehensive threat modeling across the entire AI lifecycle, spanning data ingestion, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation, and agent frameworks.
- Own the overarching AI security strategy and multi-year roadmap while architecting the organizational risk and governance framework.
- Represent the organization at executive and board-level briefings, translating complex technical risk scenarios into business-contextualized impact.
What you need
- Bring over 10 years of professional experience in cybersecurity, with at least 4 to 5 years specifically dedicated to AI/ML security, adversarial machine learning, or security data science.
- Demonstrate a track record of defining and driving enterprise-level security programs rather than merely executing within them.
- Possess practitioner-level knowledge of adversarial attack and defense concepts such as model extraction, membership inference, and prompt injection.
- Demonstrate strong programming proficiency in Python and Go for building custom security tooling and automation capabilities.
- Show familiarity with major industry frameworks including the OWASP LLM Top 10, MITRE ATLAS, NIST AI RMF, and the EU AI Act.
- Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Mathematics, or a related field, or possess equivalent practical experience.
Benefits
- Reimbursement for relevant conferences, training, and education
- Access to LinkedIn Learning's course library
