About this role
The day-to-day work for a Facilities Operations Technician involves actively operating and maintaining the essential mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems within SpaceXAI's supercomputing data centers. This role centers on hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting complex issues, and optimizing processes to ensure the peak performance and reliability of the facility infrastructure. Technicians will be responsible for everything from routine inspections to managing spare parts inventory and coordinating system shutdowns.
This position exists to ensure the physical infrastructure supporting SpaceXAI's mission—accelerating human scientific discovery through AI—remains operational without interruption. What you will do
- Responsible for ensuring the site adheres to all local and regional health and safety requirements regarding MEP infrastructure.
- Provide operational expertise for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems at the data center facility.
- Troubleshoot complex issues related to critical systems such as pumps, chillers, generators, and switchgear.
- Perform daily inspections of all critical systems to verify performance measures are being maintained.
- Identify and manage spare parts inventory to minimize potential downtime.
- Write and execute Maintenance Operating Procedures (MOPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).
- Develop and implement energy monitoring metrics to track facility performance.
What you need
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering is preferred, or a minimum of two years of hands-on operations/facilities work experience in lieu of a degree.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical or electrical engineering principles and systems is highly beneficial.
- Experience and knowledge of critical systems documentation, including Plans, Procedures, and Operations Manuals, is required.
- Proficiency in Building and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems and Operations is necessary.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical and electrical systems are essential.
- Experience with PLC-based control systems and/or Building Management Systems is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are necessary for technical documentation and team collaboration.
