About this role
Professionals who enjoy operating as versatile generalists, building processes from scratch, and turning complex research into clear, actionable materials will thrive in this position. Within Anthropic's Public Policy team, the Strategic Advisory group focuses on developing research strategies that strengthen the company's influence in Washington and international jurisdictions. The person in this role will shape organizational policy positions by deciding what evidence is necessary, collaborating with internal technical teams, and partnering with external academics and think tanks.
Day-to-day work involves running cross-functional processes that take open policy questions and move them to agreed, evidence-backed stances. Team members scope research plans, oversee commissioned studies and economic impact reports, and scale support for growing international markets. The role exists to bridge the gap between technical AI developments and regulatory strategy, ensuring that policymakers receive rigorous, transparent information regarding safety and economic impacts.
What you will do
- Run policy development processes from open questions to agreed positions by collaborating with research, legal, communications, and regional policy teams.
- Develop research plans for priority issue areas to determine what evidence strengthens a position and when outside partners are needed.
- Work with internal research groups, including economics, Societal Impacts, and the Frontier Red Team, to translate technical findings for policymakers.
- Manage commissioned research from scoping through publication and build partnerships with outside academics, think tanks, economists, and consultancies.
- Own economic impact reports and narratives for markets around the world.
- Anticipate emerging policy issues and develop the company's perspective and supporting materials before external pressure builds.
- Scale support for international markets by adapting strategies and building repeatable templates and processes.
- Draft briefings, talking points, and other materials on short timelines in coordination with policy communications.
What you need
- A track record of driving cross-functional projects to a decision or finished product with people of competing interests.

- Ability to scope research questions, work with economists and academics, and evaluate the quality of their evidence and methods.
- Excellent writing skills to translate complex technical or economic material into clear memos, briefings, and talking points.
- An understanding of how a company's commercial interests and policy positions fit together.
- Strong organization and project management abilities to handle multiple projects and outside partners simultaneously.
- A record of working independently, taking ownership of problems, and driving deliverables without prompting.
- Interest in AI policy and alignment with the company's mission to develop safe and beneficial AI.
