About this role

Role Overview

NetDocuments is seeking an in-office Platform Engineer based in Lehi, Utah, to build, run, and manage the internal large language model gateway that powers corporate AI systems. This role is well-suited for a backend and systems professional with four to five years of platform operations experience who wants to own internal AI architecture end-to-end.

Key Responsibilities

Deploy, configure, and operate the AI gateway that handles internal large language model traffic and provider connections.
Integrate the gateway with Microsoft Entra ID for single sign-on and role-based access control while managing virtual API keys.
Implement request path controls including data loss prevention, redaction, and audit logging to satisfy security and compliance standards.
Tune routing policies so requests route to the appropriate model automatically by default.
Build usage-based cost attribution by team, application, use case, and API key across seat-based and API-based consumption.
Configure and enforce budgets, rate limits, and hard stops to reduce avoidable consumption like retry loops and oversized contexts.
Manage the intake path for new AI use cases, coordinating reviews with Security, Compliance, and Legal.
Act as the first responder for gateway outages, provider degradation, rate limit events, and runaway spend.
Produce weekly updates, monthly attribution reports, and maintain thorough technical documentation.

Requirements

Four to five years of experience operating a cloud production service relied upon by other teams, including on-call ownership.
Hands-on production experience with AWS or Azure API Gateway, reverse proxies, or service meshes like Envoy, Kong, LiteLLM, Portkey, or NGINX.
Expertise in authentication and authorization engineering including OIDC, OAuth 2.0, SAML, RBAC design, and credential lifecycle management.
Backend and systems engineering skills using Python or Go at the middleware level, plus infrastructure as code and containerized deployment.
Strong background in observability, metrics, structured logging, and distributed tracing.
Experience with usage-based cost attribution, forecasting, and enforcing consumption spend.
Proven ability in process design, technical documentation, and stakeholder reporting.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID as an identity provider.
Knowledge of large language model API behavior such as token accounting, streaming, and context limits.
Experience with Model Context Protocol and tool calling architectures.
Background in data loss prevention or data classification on a request path.
Experience working within SOC 2, ISO 27001, or FedRAMP environments.
Proficiency with SQL or Snowflake.
