Network Operations Center Specialist - Memphis
About this role
Campus health signals require constant observation to ensure site-impacting events are detected, verified, and routed to the correct responders without delay. xAI seeks a Network Operations Center Specialist to staff the console on a shift schedule, watch infrastructure signals around the clock, and run reliable incident communications for leadership. This individual acts as the central hub for campus operations by acknowledging pages within SLA, classifying alerts, organizing incident bridges, and driving corrective projects to closure.
Operating in a flat organizational structure, successful candidates will rely on rigorous prioritization, pattern recognition across multiple domains, and concise communication. This role sits at the core of site operations rather than engineering or tool building, requiring professionals who excel at judgment, cross-functional coordination, and maintaining durable shift logs.
What you will do
- Staff the console per a rotating shift schedule to monitor cluster health, node availability, network health, facility trend panels, storage alarms, and threshold breaches.
- Acknowledge pages within SLA to classify alerts as actionable, known, or noise while feeding noise patterns back to site reliability engineering.
- Operate the escalation matrix by detecting, verifying, and routing incidents to on-call engineers and domain owners within strict time budgets.
- Open and run incident bridges while maintaining real-time timelines, stakeholder communications on fixed cadences, and managing ownership stalls.
- Produce first-pass root cause analysis framing and hand off deep technical investigations to specialized engineering teams.
- Write major-incident reports and open tracking projects in Linear to chase corrective actions through to completion.
- Maintain and improve operations runbooks, escalation matrices, and communications templates while participating in game days.
What you need
- Demonstrated experience working in a 24/7 operations environment such as a NOC, SOC, dispatch, or mission control.
- Proven ability to acknowledge, classify, and escalate operational incidents under SLA in high-signal settings.
- Hands-on background opening and running incident bridges with live timeline hygiene and fixed-cadence stakeholder updates.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities to draft clear updates during active incidents.
- Pattern recognition across compute, network, storage, or facilities signals paired with curiosity about complex system interactions.
- Experience following, maintaining, and improving operational processes including runbooks, escalation matrices, and handoffs.
- Willingness and ability to work a rotating shift schedule that includes nights and weekends for continuous campus coverage.
Nice to have
- Prior NOC, data center operations, or campus reliability experience in high-performance computing, AI/ML infrastructure, or large-scale production environments.
- Experience writing major-incident reports and driving corrective follow-ups to closed statuses using tools like Linear.
- Familiarity with Linear or similar work-tracking tools for managing corrective action programs.
- Experience partnering with site reliability, site operations, and facilities teams on escalations and post-incident follow-through.
- Participation in game days, tabletop exercises, or runbook improvement programs.
