Role Overview

Sierra is looking for an experienced Motion Designer to join the Creative Studio and define how the brand communicates through movement. Operating primarily in-person out of San Francisco, this role involves partnering across brand design, marketing, product, and leadership teams. The professional will help establish the motion practice from scratch, translating complex artificial intelligence concepts into clear and engaging visual narratives across numerous channels.

Key Responsibilities

Produce high-end motion design assets for marketing campaigns, product reveals, customer highlights, corporate events, and social channels.
Formulate core motion principles, animation frameworks, and scalable guidelines to maintain visual consistency.
Build efficient, reusable motion templates and comprehensive documentation for internal teams.
Collaborate directly with brand designers, product teams, and executives to enhance visual storytelling.
Establish motion best practices across digital, experiential, and product landscapes.
Guide and mentor colleagues regarding execution, workflows, and motion craft.
Investigate new creative opportunities utilizing artificial intelligence while preserving strong standards of taste and craftsmanship.

Requirements

Possess eight or more years of professional motion design experience backed by a robust portfolio.
Demonstrate deep expertise in timing, visual storytelling, animation principles, and typography.
Exhibit strong systems thinking with a history of building scalable frameworks and reusable design assets.
Maintain excellent communication skills to articulate creative direction and design rationale to stakeholders.
Act as a self-starting builder who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys defining brand standards from the ground up.

Nice to Have

Prior background supporting high-growth technology, SaaS, artificial intelligence, B2B, or consumer brands.
Familiarity with Cinema 4D, Lottie, Rive, AI-assisted creative software, or innovative motion pipelines.
