About this role

Runlayer is seeking an experienced security professional to join the founding engineering team as a Member of Technical Staff - Security on a hybrid or remote basis. This position is well-suited for a dedicated builder with a strong background in security tooling who wants to shape the future of enterprise AI safety.

Role Overview

As a Member of Technical Staff focusing on security, the incoming engineer will develop the security scanning and detection solutions that safeguard enterprise artificial intelligence initiatives. This role involves taking full ownership of the Runlayer Watch products, encompassing both static and dynamic scanning capabilities, unregistered agent detection, and application security for the entire platform.

Key Responsibilities

Build and enhance Watch products, which include static and dynamic scanning for Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, skills, plugins, and agent behavior detection on endpoints.
Develop shadow detection systems to locate unregistered MCP servers, skills, plugins, and agents operating without governance across enterprise networks.
Create automated version scanning by integrating security checks into CI/CD pipelines to run on every new MCP server version, skill update, or plugin release.
Extend detection coverage to encompass browser-based agents and command-line interface agents.

Requirements

Bring eight or more years of professional engineering experience specifically within the security domain, focusing on building security tooling or endpoint detection products.
Act as a builder rather than an operator, having previously created analysis pipelines, parsers, or rule engines for scanning and detection systems.
Possess practical background with asset discovery, shadow IT detection, or endpoint monitoring within enterprise environments.
Demonstrate strong proficiency in Python, which powers the platform backend and scanning pipeline.
Understand gateway and API attack patterns such as injection, Server-Side Request Forgery, and token theft, alongside emerging LLM security threats like prompt injection and tool poisoning.

Nice to Have

Direct familiarity with MCP, LLM security, or artificial intelligence agents.
Previous experience building commercial security products rather than internal tooling.
Existing network within the enterprise security community.
