Role Overview

Manager of Applied AI Architecture, Startups is an opportunity at Anthropic located in San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY. The professional in this position will set the vision for technical partnership in the startup segment, develop a high-performing team, and manage relationships with strategic early-stage accounts. The job involves driving frontier AI adoption, shaping segment strategy alongside sales leaders, and translating customer feedback into actionable insights for product and engineering groups.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and expand a team of Startups Applied AI Architects with a focus on technical credibility and execution speed.
Drive team performance through structured goal-setting, ongoing coaching, and technical development.
Handle pre-sales engagements for high-priority startup accounts from initial discovery to deployment and expansion.
Establish segment technical playbooks covering evaluations, custom frameworks, and LLM solutions for resource-constrained teams.
Partner with Account Executives and GTM leadership to encourage Claude API adoption across the startup ecosystem.
Gather insights regarding startup use cases and deployment patterns to share with Product and Engineering.
Represent Anthropic at events, conferences, workshops, and through content creation.
Keep up with advancements in context engineering, evaluation frameworks, and agentic architectures.

Requirements

Eight or more years of experience in technical customer-facing roles such as Solutions Architect or Sales Engineer.
Five or more years of experience leading and managing pre-sales or technical go-to-market teams.
Background working with startups or high-growth technology companies and understanding early-stage constraints.
Builder credibility with practical experience in building and deploying LLM-powered applications.
Hands-on expertise in context engineering, LLM evaluation frameworks, and modern AI architectures.
Familiarity with Python and fluency in LLM frameworks, tools, and integration patterns.
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Nice to Have

Experience as a technical founder or in a founder-led sales motion.
Track record of winning competitive technical evaluations against other LLM providers.
Experience building foundational team infrastructure from scratch in a high-growth environment.
Familiarity with developer infrastructure procurement from seed through Series B and beyond.
Visible technical presence in the startup or AI engineering community through talks, writing, or open-source contributions.
