About this role

Anthropic needs a dedicated Lead Technical Instructor in New York City to address the lack of a standardized technical instruction function across internal programs, partners, and customers learning to build with Claude. Splitting time between direct instruction and elevating fellow educators, this practitioner will deliver hands-on labs, run train-the-trainer initiatives, and ensure consistent quality across onboarding, residency, and technical enablement programs.

Reporting to the Head of Technical Training, the person in this role will spend roughly half their time teaching live in New York and remotely across European time zones, while dedicating the remainder to coaching other instructors and refining curriculum. Success requires writing production code, debugging live systems in front of skeptical engineers, and mentoring technical presenters through actionable feedback. Ideal candidates combine deep software engineering and recent AI development expertise with a strong track record of training technical audiences.

What you will do

  • Deliver hands-on technical instruction across onboarding, residency, and technical enablement programs both in person in New York and remotely across European time zones.
  • Model excellent technical teaching for groups ranging from small interactive labs to large audiences of 100+ practitioners while adapting to varying experience levels.
  • Run train-the-trainer programs for internal experts, contract instructors, and training partners using established practice-teach, feedback, and certification processes.
  • Coach and calibrate instructors through live and recorded observations, actionable feedback, and readiness recommendations for specific content.
  • Partner with technical experts to transform subject matter expertise into effective sessions, labs, exercises, and demonstrations.
  • Own instructional quality in assigned programs by staffing qualified instructors into East Coast calendars and maintaining delivery standards.
  • Use learner and instructor data to identify gaps and recommend improvements to curriculum, delivery, and instructor development.
  • Help evolve the technical instruction function by integrating field experience into company standards and scaling practices.

What you need

  • Bring 6+ years of relevant professional experience across software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, technical education, or similar technically deep roles.
  • Demonstrate 3+ years of hands-on technical instruction experience teaching engineers in live environments both in person and remotely.
  • Possess production engineering experience writing and shipping software with the ability to engage credibly on architecture, implementation, and debugging.
  • Show recent hands-on AI development experience within the past three years using LLM APIs, agents, tool use, MCP, or related technologies.
  • Have instructor development experience helping peers improve through observation, structured feedback, practice teaching, or train-the-trainer programs.
  • Be based in New York City or willing to relocate to work from the NYC office whenever an instructor-led program is in session, typically around three days per week.
  • Accommodate approximately 25% travel to San Francisco and, over time, Europe.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field of study.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing or operating a train-the-trainer, instructor certification, or observer-calibration program.
  • A portfolio of sessions, labs, or courses designed and taught, alongside material created for other instructors.
  • Experience teaching across time zones or to European audiences, including coaching instructors from recorded sessions.
  • Experience using Claude Code or a comparable agentic coding tool as a significant part of an engineering workflow.
  • Experience building with the Claude Developer Platform through Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, Microsoft Foundry, or comparable infrastructure.
