About this role

This remote role suits an experienced, autonomous software engineer based in Brazil who wants to lead the technical direction and engineering function for a growing retention marketing agency. Sierra Studio is hiring a Lead AI Engineer to take ownership of the entire architecture, codebase, and internal AI systems currently established by the founder.

Role Overview

The Lead AI Engineer will audit, rebuild, and scale existing prototypes, data pipelines, and agentic workflows into a robust, maintained codebase. Operating as the first engineer at the company, this position involves pairing directly with the founder on product development, interfacing with clients, and shaping future engineering standards and hires.

Key Responsibilities

Audit the existing codebase and architecture hosted on Cloudflare with a Supabase data layer to define what stays, what gets rebuilt, and how systems connect.
Design and manage data pipelines by pulling data from third-party APIs like Klaviyo, Postscript, and Attentive into Supabase for modeling, syncing, and advanced querying.
Design and ship AI agents and skills for account diagnostics, reporting, quality assurance, go-to-market strategies, and internal operations.
Evolve early-stage products built on top of the data layer into reliable tools that clients can depend on.
Act as the technical voice and engineering counterpart to the founder during product decisions, assessing feasibility, effort, and risk.
Establish engineering standards and practices for future hires while working proactively in a remote, asynchronous environment.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of professional software building experience with a track record of shipping products used by real people.
Strong full-stack engineering skills utilizing TypeScript, Python, modern backend and frontend, Cloudflare, and Supabase or Postgres.
Experience with cloud infrastructure provisioning across platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, alongside CI/CD workflows.
Hands-on experience building LLM-based systems including agents, tool use, RAG, evaluations, and prompt or skill design.
Strong background in data pipeline design, third-party API ingestion, data modeling, and end-to-end data infrastructure ownership.
Prior experience acting as the sole or lead engineer with the ability to scope, prioritize, ship, and maintain systems independently.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills for proactive remote collaboration with the founder and clients.

Nice to Have

Experience with email and SMS marketing platforms like Klaviyo, Postscript, Attentive, or Braze, or familiarity with the DTC and ecommerce ecosystem.
Background working at a fast-moving martech or retention product company.
Experience productizing internal tooling or transforming agency workflows into software.
Familiarity using AI coding tools such as Codex or Claude Code within a daily workflow.
Strong product instinct regarding what features should be built alongside how they are implemented.
