Role Overview

Sierra Studio seeks a Backend Engineer, AI Integrations to handle engineering duties for artificial intelligence products and services. The professional in this position will architect the technical stack, write code, integrate language model APIs, and guide features from early prototypes to reliable client deployments.

Key Responsibilities

Lead artificial intelligence product work by designing and shipping customer-facing experiences from agent orchestration to backend support systems.
Improve internal artificial intelligence tooling and delivery practices.
Participate in team growth by interviewing future candidates.
Mentor other engineers to help level up the team.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of software engineering experience, featuring project or people leadership.
Backend programming expertise in TypeScript or Python.
Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Database familiarity with systems like PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
Hands-on experience constructing applications using modern language model application programming interfaces like OpenAI and Anthropic.
Practical background in agentic products and prompt engineering.
Familiarity with retrieval layers including retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, and vector search.
Experience writing and evaluating Claude Skills.
Ability to select appropriate language models by balancing quality and cost factors.
Competence in creating and integrating Model Context Protocol servers and converting endpoints into tools.
Capacity to quickly learn new languages and frameworks.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Skill in accurately estimating project timelines and scope.
Experience using artificial intelligence tools for coding such as Claude Code and Codex.

Nice to Have

Experience with system administration and internal IT workspaces like Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and SharePoint.
Background connecting ChatGPT Work or Cowork to internal data sources.
Experience integrating Microsoft 365 with artificial intelligence systems.
Ability to build data ingestion pipelines.
Background in the financial sector.
Consulting, product studio, or multi-client delivery experience.
Portfolio of built work including professional projects, side projects, or open source contributions.
