About this role

Anthropic is hiring an IT Systems Engineer for their Client Platform Engineer, macOS role across multiple locations including Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, and Washington, DC, with remote-friendly options. This position suits an experienced systems professional who wants to build and run device fleets as an end-to-end platform using configuration-as-code principles.

Role Overview

The Endpoint team at Anthropic treats the device fleet as a dedicated platform, running an internal MDM as a production service and managing all configurations through code. The professional in this role will own the platform end-to-end, managing everything from underlying infrastructure and configuration to patching pipelines and telemetry. This position requires partnering closely with Security teams on hardening and compliance controls while ensuring developer workflows remain frictionless.

Key Responsibilities

Own endpoint configuration as code by authoring, reviewing, testing, and progressively rolling out MDM policies, configuration profiles, and remediation scripts across macOS and mobile devices with canary stages and rollback mechanisms
Operate the MDM platform as a production service, managing infrastructure as code, observability, upgrades, and incident response
Build patch management automation enforcing rapid timelines while preserving a positive user experience
Design zero-touch provisioning to convert sealed boxes into productive workstations on day one
Support a small fleet of Linux machines alongside the primary Mac fleet
Transform fleet telemetry into policy enforcement, dashboards, and early drift warnings, leveraging Claude to automate manual operational tasks
Partner with Corporate Security on endpoint hardening, binary authorization, and compliance controls
Participate in the team rotation for incoming requests and escalations, acting as the deep escalation tier for unresolved IT Operations issues

Requirements

8+ years of experience building secure IT systems in complex environments, including leading projects across multiple teams
Experience managing endpoint fleets of thousands of macOS devices utilizing a modern MDM
Approach endpoint configuration as version-controlled, peer-reviewed code instead of console clicking
Deep knowledge of macOS internals such as launchd, configuration profiles, TCC, and system extensions
Proficiency in writing Python and shell scripts
Ability to write design docs and runbooks to facilitate team review and support

Nice to Have

Experience operating an MDM or device management platform as a service rather than consuming it strictly as SaaS
Familiarity with open-source endpoint and device management tools like Munki, osquery, and AutoPkg
Experience building automated progressive rollout systems gated on telemetry
Background running infrastructure as code within a public cloud environment
Working knowledge of Linux administration covering packaging, systems, and configuration management
Experience utilizing large language models to automate operational tasks
