The team at xAI builds advanced artificial intelligence systems designed to understand the universe and support humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. This role focuses on supporting the physical buildout of high-performance data centers and AI supercomputing campuses by erecting the necessary structural steel and infrastructure. The individual who takes on this position will work hands-on to install structural frameworks, equipment supports, and access systems that form the backbone of next-generation supercomputer halls.

What you will do
- Erect structural steel components including columns, beams, bracing, joists, and metal decking for supercomputer facilities and site buildings.
- Install miscellaneous metals such as stairs, ladders, platforms, catwalks, handrails, and equipment frames.
- Fabricate and set up pipe racks, mezzanines, and support steel for cooling systems, cable trays, and electrical distribution.
- Rig, hoist, and position heavy structural members and equipment supports using cranes and approved lifting gear.
- Connect structural elements through bolting, torqueing, welding, and plumbing in accordance with engineering drawings and industry standards.
- Coordinate closely with civil, mechanical, and electrical crews to ensure accurate placement of support steel and embedments.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety regulations including fall protection, hot-work protocols, and proper personal protective equipment usage.
What you need
- Minimum of three years of professional ironworking experience involving commercial, industrial, or heavy-civil structural steel, or comparable military rigging background.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret structural drawings, erection plans, and AISC connection details accurately.
- Hands-on proficiency in structural bolt-up operations, cutting, and the safe operation of aerial lifts and material-handling equipment.
- Physical readiness to work at heights, outdoors, and across dynamic construction sites.
- Possession of a strong safety mindset backed by current OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training.
- Willingness to travel extensively to company construction sites and work extended hours, nights, or weekends during critical phases.
Nice to have
- Journey-level ironworker experience or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program
- AWS D1.1 structural welding certification
- Qualified rigger or signal person certification such as NCCCO
- OSHA 30 or fall-protection competent person credentials
- Prior construction experience on hyperscale data centers, power plants, or mission-critical industrial facilities
