Role Overview

The Global Data Steward position at WPP in Chennai, India, involves supporting the organization's global Master Data Management initiative. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who wants to oversee and protect core business data assets across multiple domains.

Key Responsibilities

Review, validate, and approve AI-generated mapping recommendations utilizing the internal Matrix MDM tool.
Assess and approve new master data additions to the Golden List spanning client, media, and supplier domains.
Drive local, market, and finance teams to finish required mappings, fix poor-quality inputs, and resolve missing details.
Challenge, reject, or return incomplete or poorly justified requests and mappings.
Take full ownership of the end-to-end stewardship flow to prevent queues from stalling.
Provide structured feedback into the Matrix platform to improve AI-assisted mastering over time.
Collaborate with local stewards, finance, product, and platform teams to maintain governance and data consistency.
Escalate complex or disputed issues to the correct governance forum and document decisions transparently.

Requirements

Background in master data management, data stewardship, data governance, or data quality roles within a global or multi-market environment.
Solid grasp of master data concepts such as golden records, canonical entities, hierarchies, and deduplication.
Hands-on experience working with MDM tools and approval workflows.
Comfort reviewing and challenging AI-assisted or rule-based mappings.
Organized approach with the ability to push stakeholders to meet strict data quality and completion standards.
Strong attention to detail alongside long-term, cross-domain strategic thinking.
Confidence to reject subpar submissions and communicate clearly with technical, business, and finance teams.

Nice to Have

Previous experience working with internally built MDM tools.
Prior experience operating within formal governance and decision-authority models.
