Role Overview

Shelf.io is hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer to build production-grade Next.js applications featuring complex state management, real-time AI interactions, and robust enterprise functionality. Working from the Warsaw office, this role requires strong technical skills, exceptional UI judgment, and the ability to simplify complex product experiences. Engineers enjoy true ownership over their product surfaces, guiding features from frontend architecture through to production quality while collaborating within a fast-moving, mission-driven team.

Key Responsibilities

Design and ship production Next.js SSR applications capable of handling complex state, high-load scenarios, and real-time AI interactions at scale.
Build sophisticated interfaces for AI-driven features, including streaming LLM responses, semantic search across massive document sets, interactive knowledge graphs, and agentic builders.
Architect robust component libraries, maintain the platform design system, and ensure reusability, accessibility, and consistent user experiences.
Deliver enterprise-grade functionality covering localization, accessibility compliance, cross-browser compatibility, and stringent security practices.
Maintain full post-launch ownership by monitoring production performance, optimizing bundle sizes, instrumenting for Core Web Vitals, and ensuring graceful scaling.
Uphold high standards for code quality, rigorous testing, and engineering craft through thoughtful code reviews and peer mentorship.

Requirements

More than 5 years of professional frontend engineering experience, including at least 3 years specializing in React and modern TypeScript.
Proven production Next.js experience building SSR applications at scale, utilizing app router, server components, and evaluating trade-offs between SSR, SSG, and CSR.
Expertise in complex state management for challenging scenarios such as real-time collaboration, optimistic updates, multi-tenant isolation, and large-scale data synchronization.
Demonstrated experience building AI and LLM user interfaces, including streaming token responses, chat UIs, and semantic search interactions.
Track record of high-load performance optimization, monitoring Core Web Vitals, and scaling applications under heavy traffic and large datasets.
Deep understanding of enterprise application requirements, including localization, accessibility, security, and compliance.
Security-conscious engineering mindset with careful handling of sensitive data and clear awareness of the security implications of shipped code.
AI-native working style, actively utilizing AI coding agents daily and pushing the boundaries of harness engineering.
Clear communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate design decisions and technical trade-offs.

Nice to Have

Experience working with complex data-visualization libraries such as React Flow or Highcharts.
Hands-on background building vector search UIs, RAG interfaces, or generative UI components.
Understanding of Node.js or Python to read backend code and contribute to API design discussions.
Prior contributions to design systems or open-source component libraries.
