Role Overview

The Forward Deployed Engineer bridges the gap between client needs and the LiveKit platform. Working within the COGs department, the person in this role collaborates closely with external engineering teams to design scalable systems, prototype solutions, and transition projects from initial testing to large-scale production. The position requires navigating complex technical environments to ensure developers successfully launch audio, video, and AI applications using LiveKit technology.

Key Responsibilities

Partner directly with customer engineering teams remotely or on-site when needed to design and implement real-time applications.
Create scalable architectures supporting voice AI, real-time media, and developer platform use cases.
Build prototype integrations, reference implementations, and sample applications to speed up customer development cycles.
Guide clients through SDKs, APIs, infrastructure planning, and production deployment strategies.
Debug and troubleshoot complex technical problems within live production environments.
Lead architecture sessions and technical workshops with developer and product groups.
Translate real-world customer requirements into valuable insights that guide product development.
Collaborate with internal Product and Engineering teams to enhance developer tooling, documentation, and overall experience.
Contribute helpful code, improvements, or examples to the broader LiveKit open-source ecosystem.
Serve as a trusted advisor to help clients successfully scale and launch applications.

Requirements

Bring a strong engineering background with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in backend or infrastructure engineering.
Show proficiency in one or more programming languages, specifically including Python, Rust, or C++.
Demonstrate comfort working across cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, SDKs, and APIs.
Possust direct experience building or integrating real-time systems or developer platforms.
Display the ability to quickly master complex systems and diagnose issues in real-world settings.
Exhibit strong communication skills to work seamlessly with both customer teams and internal groups.
Operate effectively in fast-paced environments that demand high levels of personal ownership and initiative.
Maintain an enthusiasm for hands-on problem-solving alongside clients.

Nice to Have

Background working with WebRTC, real-time media setups, or telephony and SIP infrastructure.
Familiarity with conversational agents, voice AI, or AI infrastructure technologies.
Previous background in customer-facing technical roles such as Field Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or Forward Deployed Engineer.
History of contributing to developer ecosystems or open-source projects.
Past experience building products with LiveKit or integrating its ecosystem.
