Role Overview

In this position, the Forward Deployed Engineer works directly with client engineering teams to build voice AI and real-time communication applications on the LiveKit platform. The professional collaborates with customers to design scalable systems, build prototype solutions, and navigate complex technical barriers as projects move from experimentation to production. Key Responsibilities

Partner directly with customer engineering teams to design and build real-time applications utilizing LiveKit.
Formulate scalable architectures for developer platforms, voice AI, and real-time media use cases.
Create reference implementations, sample applications, and prototype integrations to speed up client development.
Assist clients in navigating deployment strategies, infrastructure, APIs, and SDKs for production systems.
Troubleshoot and debug challenging technical problems within live production environments.
Lead technical workshops and architecture discussions alongside developer and product teams.
Translate customer requirements into technical insights that influence platform and product development.
Collaborate with internal Product and Engineering groups to enhance tooling, documentation, and overall developer experience.
Contribute code, improvements, and examples to the broader open-source ecosystem.
Serve as a trusted advisor to help clients successfully launch and scale on the platform.

Requirements

Possesses a strong engineering background with a minimum of 7 years of experience in infrastructure or backend engineering.
Demonstrates proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Rust, Python, Go, Node, or C++.
Comfort working across cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, SDKs, and APIs.
Experience building or integrating real-time systems or developer platforms.
Ability to rapidly comprehend intricate systems and resolve issues in real-world settings.
Strong communication skills suited for collaborating with internal teams and customer engineering groups.
Comfortable operating within fast-paced, low-process settings that require high initiative and ownership.
Excited to engage in hands-on work with clients to solve implementation challenges.

Nice to Have

Background working with WebRTC, telephony or SIP infrastructure, or real-time media systems.
Familiarity with conversational agents, voice AI, or AI infrastructure.
Previous experience in customer-facing engineering positions like Solutions Engineer, Field Engineer, or Forward Deployed Engineer.
History of contributing to developer ecosystems or open-source projects.
Prior experience building with or integrating the LiveKit platform.
