Role Overview
The Forward Deployed Architect position at Notion in Tokyo is a full-time role within the Sales department suited for professionals with a background in tech consulting or solutions architecture. This role empowers customers to turn AI ambition into operational reality and unlock the full platform potential by designing and launching AI-native workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Partner directly with customers on forward deployed engagements from initial discovery through launch, translating business goals and workflow requirements into clear, scalable solutions.
Design robust Notion architectures that incorporate customer workflows, permissions, governance needs, integrations, and AI use cases.
Build and deploy AI-native workflows utilizing Notion AI, custom agents, automations, Workers, and Developer Platform capabilities.
Create adoption plans, enablement materials, and launch strategies that foster sustained usage and deliver measurable business value.
Identify repeatable patterns across customer interactions to develop packaged solutions, templates, runbooks, and reference architectures.
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by simplifying complex technical needs, recommending practical trade-offs, and ensuring stakeholder alignment.
Requirements
Bring at least 5 years of professional experience in tech services, consulting, solutions architecture, customer engineering, or related customer-facing roles.
Demonstrate a proven capability to transform ambiguous goals into structured workflows, implementation plans, and clear success criteria.
Possess strong consultative discovery skills to map current workflows, surface pain points, understand operating models, and define future-state solutions.
Exhibit a hands-on AI builder mindset with practical experience utilizing AI tools to prototype, automate, or improve business processes.
Show technical fluency involving APIs, data models, automation, integrations, and enterprise systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and reason through technical constraints.
Maintain strong project and engagement management abilities, taking ownership of timelines, scope, deliverables, and launch readiness.
Demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills alongside strong executive presence and customer judgment.
Possess fluency in written and spoken Japanese to communicate effectively with external clients, partners, and internal team members.
Nice to Have
Practical experience designing and deploying agents, automations, or AI-powered workflows with customers.
Familiarity with Notion, APIs, MCPs, Workers, coding agents, or developer platform workflows.
Background in developing discovery methodologies, reusable delivery assets, internal tools, or reference architectures from the ground up.
Experience collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to convert field learnings into roadmap insights or product enhancements.
Previous tenure in a high-growth, fast-paced technology environment.
Business-level English proficiency for interacting with global stakeholders and peers.
Familiarity with Japanese enterprise customers and local market dynamics.
