About this role

The Field Marketing Lead, Public Sector at Anthropic is a zero-to-one builder role responsible for driving the US public sector field marketing strategy and execution from San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC. This position suits an experienced demand generation and events professional who wants to shape how government agencies and public sector organizations adopt Claude.

Role Overview

Anthropic is looking for a Field Marketing Lead dedicated to the public sector industry, which represents a rapidly growing customer segment for the company. This individual will own the complete field marketing lifecycle for public sector audiences across the United States in close partnership with the public sector sales team. Because this is an early-stage initiative within the organization, there is no existing playbook to inherit, allowing the professional in this role to design event calendars, integrated digital programs, and scalable operational frameworks from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

Design and execute the US public sector field marketing strategy encompassing planning, calendars, execution, and performance measurement.
Create government-compliant event formats including agency roundtables, technical demo days, executive breakfasts, and mission briefings that adhere to federal ethics and gift regulations.
Align marketing programs with the government fiscal year, driving demand campaigns that peak ahead of federal year-end and state budget cycles.
Manage presence at major public sector anchor events, covering everything from sponsorship strategy to speaker placement and on-site activation.
Build co-marketing initiatives alongside the public sector channel ecosystem, including distributors, resellers, systems integrators, and contract-vehicle holders.
Partner directly with sales and business development representatives on account targeting, pre-event outreach, and post-event follow-up to convert interest into pipeline.
Establish baseline metrics, ROI reporting dashboards, and scalable operational playbooks such as demo day kits and hackathon guides.

Requirements

Direct public sector segment experience with a history of building and executing programs specifically targeting government audiences.
End-to-end ownership background in field marketing events and programs, combining strategic vision with hands-on execution.
Demonstrated success scaling field or demand generation initiatives across multiple environments and companies.
Experience building a field marketing motion from scratch alongside scaled-company operational tenure.
Strong sales alignment capabilities, having worked directly with account executives and business development teams on account targeting and outreach.
Operational rigor to independently manage vendor relationships, registration workflows, and ROI tracking.
Technical credibility sufficient to review event content, brief technical speakers, and engage with technical leaders.
Ability to work from either the San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC office at least two days a week.
Minimum of a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.

Nice to Have

10+ years of cumulative experience across field marketing, demand generation, account-based marketing, and events within B2B technology companies.
Background working inside a rapidly growing public sector organization or blending public sector expertise with scaled technology company tenure.
Prior field marketing experience within the artificial intelligence and machine learning sector.
Existing professional relationships with public sector associations and research institutions.
Visible thought leadership within the public sector or developer ecosystems.
