Role Overview

Protolabs Network hires an Engineering Manager - Pricing for a hybrid position based in the Netherlands. The person in this role leads a team of software engineers, applied ML engineers, and technical product managers responsible for the pricing engine and supporting services. The position owns the shared engine, architecture, and multi-year strategy, ensuring pricing operates as a true enterprise capability across factory versus network fulfillment.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with senior management and pricing leadership to establish priorities for pricing engine development, manage related projects, assign team members, and deliver day-to-day technical direction.
Own the capability and roadmap for the pricing engine, defining multi-year strategies for rules, models, and services.
Guide problem analysis, solution design, development, and testing to support differentiated rules across factory versus network fulfillment, service lines, and prototype versus production.
Lead the creation and ongoing management of LLM-based capabilities supporting pricing strategy, including rule generation, strategy translation, decision support, evaluation, retraining, and governance.
Ensure the pricing engine operates as a true enterprise capability with consistent architecture and shared services rather than siloed implementations.
Recommend process improvements to enhance pricing engine quality, reliability, margin, conversion, and competitiveness.
Hire, manage, and develop staff across software engineering, applied ML/LLM development, and technical product management.
Mentor team members on pricing methodology, ML/LLM techniques, and software engineering practices.
Partner with service-line-embedded pricing analysts to align central pricing capabilities with enterprise-wide consistency and governance.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience leading and managing software engineering teams.
Strong software engineering background with experience building and scaling complex rules-based or model-driven decisioning systems like pricing or recommendation engines.
Direct experience building and managing LLM-based or applied ML/AI capabilities in a production setting.
Proven ability to build and operate capabilities as enterprise services designed for reuse across multiple business lines.
Prior people-management experience leading engineering or applied ML teams at a senior or staff level with roadmap ownership.
Strong cross-functional partnership skills to work with distributed pricing analysts and service line leaders.

Nice to Have

Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience with pricing strategy, revenue management, or similar quantitative business systems.
